Spicerack's X-Wing 100pt List

Image
Well, since everyone else is doing it, I thought I might as well post my list as well. As the only Imperial player among us, I have had the unique opportunity of using the Phantoms and Defenders to death. After some initial success with both Phantoms and Defenders it has quickly become apparent (whilst getting annihilated by Crazy’s anti-Phantom list) that these ships have their limits.  Whilst I love them both dearly, the meta has definitely shifted to cater for these unorthodox threats, and will continue to do so as the new Rebel Aces and the pair of large turret ships are released later in the year. So I've been doing some thinking as to what I do now. One of the things I’ve come to notice whenever TommyH or Crazy bring up the latest tournament results is that there’s always a TIE swarm in the top 10. More often than not there is a swarm list placing; the most recent I’ve seen was a first place with 4 Obsidians and 4 Academies. However your conventional TIE swarm works something...

TommyH's 100pt X-Wing Squad

So I'm absolutely loving X-Wing at the moment, along with all of the 40k Warzone Team. I was a tad envious of TIE Swarm lists and how amazing they looked on the table top, however I refuse to play Imperials! I played around with various Z-95 Headhunter Swarms and while they look great on paper, I just don't think they would perform as well as TIE Swarms. They would however, have a smidgen more durability and higher Pilot Skill but I wanted to have a bit more flavour than simply spamming Z95's. I also needed to factor in that to deal with Phantoms and faster ships such as the A-Wing, E-Wing and TIE Interceptors, I needed to hand out stress tokens. To make stress tokens really effective you also need to throw in some Ion Token handouts, so this is what I came up with: Z-95 Head Hunter - 21pts - Airen Cracken - Swarm Tactics  Z-95 Head Hunter - 22pts - Lieutenant Blount  - Swarm Tactics  - Ion Pulse Missiles   Z-95 Head Hunter - 15pts  - Bandit Squadron Pilot ...

1200pts of Ogres

Image
So after recently purchasing a bunch of 2nd hand ogre models (you can see picks by following this link:  http://40kwarzone.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/new-project-ogre-kingdoms.html?m=1 ) I've managed to secure a few games on tonight! I'm really excited for my first couple of Fantasy games using Ogre Kingdoms so here's what I've come up with (keep in mind I'm limited to using the models that I own while I wait for some ebay deliveries!): ----------------- Ogres 1200pts HEROES  Firebelly (General)  - Level 2 Wizard  Bruiser  - Battle Standard Bearer - Great Weapon  - Heavy Armour  CORE  6 Ogres   - Ironfists  6 Ironguts  - Full Command    - Standard of Discipline  SPECIAL  4 Leadbelchers  - Musician   Sabretusk  Sabretusk  Sabretusk  RARE  Ironblaster  ----------------- So I'm sure the first thing you will notice is the lack of mournfangs.... Unfortunately these haven't arrived yet :...

Upcoming battle report - Orks vs Nids

As our regular readers may know, Ruby and I are big fans of testing out the latest stuff released from GW. While we may not be the quickest on the uptake, we like to think that we're more balanced in our approach. To this end, we have scheduled a 2k point battle: Orks vs new Nids. "But there are no new Orks, that's not fair on you, and the new Nids are so OP!" I hear you cry but fear not, while Ruby will be taking the bulk of his new Tyranid force (assuming he builds them in time), I will be fielding an Ork Stompa to even the field. We will have a full battle report for you soon. Let the stomping commence!

The Zombie Apocalypse

Image
As some of you have read in recent posts, Crazy424 likes his meta-lists. The most recent of these takes the form of a couple of HQ choices and lots of Zombies with some Chaos Spawn thrown in for good measure. I'm always up for disproving meta-lists so we arranged a 1500pt, three player 'Battle Royale', Ruby playing his beloved Space Marines, Crazy424 playing a version of the Zombie list (with 100+ Zombies) and me playing mostly Orks (with a Wraithknight thrown in just because Ruby hates it). The first scary part about playing against the Zombie list is the sheer number of models. Crazy was proxying all of them (not a single correct model to his name) and the deployment was terrifying - his models completely covered one edge of a 72" board at least three models deep! Add to that the extra infiltrating Zombies who appeared with 18" of both of our lines and it makes a formidable sight. Then there's the Spawn who are terrifying in small numbers, let alone when the...

Battle Report - Space Marines vs Eldar - 3000pts

Image
Here at 40 Warzone, we weren't entirely happy with the way the Battle Report played out in the latest White Dwarf with the Space Marines losing to Chaos (you need to use different armies WD guys). So, we decided to play our own with the two latest armies, Space Marines and Eldar. Ruby had recently purchased his new Sternguard, Vanguard and Centurion squads and was keen to try them out. He is also now the proud owner of a Land Raider and Drop Pod for getting those all important Sternguard and Centurions into battle more quickly. For me, I have played a few games recently but I've missed using a few of my favourite units - namely the Wraithlord, Howling Banshees and Fire Prism (not everyone's taste but I like them for their potential, not their actual use). I also wanted to try out the new Wraith units and flyers for more than one turn. Board We decided to play on our new 4' by 6' board (currently unpainted) with plenty of cover provided by hills and ruins (mostly pai...

Ethereal Snatch, The Campaign Begins!

Image
Siceralc - Over the last few weeks most of us have been playing the meta pretty hard, and we've decided to give it a break and indulge our desire for fluff. What follows is the first of several scenarios we plan on playing over the next few months, and we hope to develop the games as we go along. The suggestion has also been made that we flesh out these scenarios with some narrative fluff, so with no further adieu I give you Part One of the Perdus Rift Campaign, story and battle report. Unity. Prosperity. Peace. There could be no higher calling than upholding these tenets of the Tau way, but by the Greater Good the longing for real political debate was overwhelming. How had he been so stupid as to request a field assignment? Just how exactly had he ended up as a political attache to a forsaken mining expedition on the eastern outskirts of the Perdus Rift? Surely this was a role for one of the Water Caste? Aun’Li could not fathom why a member of the Ethereal Caste was ...
