Spicerack's X-Wing 100pt List

Image
Well, since everyone else is doing it, I thought I might as well post my list as well. As the only Imperial player among us, I have had the unique opportunity of using the Phantoms and Defenders to death. After some initial success with both Phantoms and Defenders it has quickly become apparent (whilst getting annihilated by Crazy’s anti-Phantom list) that these ships have their limits.  Whilst I love them both dearly, the meta has definitely shifted to cater for these unorthodox threats, and will continue to do so as the new Rebel Aces and the pair of large turret ships are released later in the year. So I've been doing some thinking as to what I do now. One of the things I’ve come to notice whenever TommyH or Crazy bring up the latest tournament results is that there’s always a TIE swarm in the top 10. More often than not there is a swarm list placing; the most recent I’ve seen was a first place with 4 Obsidians and 4 Academies. However your conventional TIE swarm works something

So I'm absolutely loving X-Wing at the moment, along with all of the 40k Warzone Team. I was a tad envious of TIE Swarm lists and how amazing they looked on the table top, however I refuse to play Imperials! I played around with various Z-95 Headhunter Swarms and while they look great on paper, I just don't think they would perform as well as TIE Swarms. They would however, have a smidgen more durability and higher Pilot Skill but I wanted to have a bit more flavour than simply spamming Z95's. I also needed to factor in that to deal with Phantoms and faster ships such as the A-Wing, E-Wing and TIE Interceptors, I needed to hand out stress tokens. To make stress tokens really effective you also need to throw in some Ion Token handouts, so this is what I came up with: Z-95 Head Hunter - 21pts - Airen Cracken - Swarm Tactics  Z-95 Head Hunter - 22pts - Lieutenant Blount  - Swarm Tactics  - Ion Pulse Missiles   Z-95 Head Hunter - 15pts  - Bandit Squadron Pilot - Ion Pulse Missi

So after recently purchasing a bunch of 2nd hand ogre models (you can see picks by following this link:  http://40kwarzone.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/new-project-ogre-kingdoms.html?m=1 ) I've managed to secure a few games on tonight! I'm really excited for my first couple of Fantasy games using Ogre Kingdoms so here's what I've come up with (keep in mind I'm limited to using the models that I own while I wait for some ebay deliveries!): ----------------- Ogres 1200pts HEROES  Firebelly (General)  - Level 2 Wizard  Bruiser  - Battle Standard Bearer - Great Weapon  - Heavy Armour  CORE  6 Ogres   - Ironfists  6 Ironguts  - Full Command    - Standard of Discipline  SPECIAL  4 Leadbelchers  - Musician   Sabretusk  Sabretusk  Sabretusk  RARE  Ironblaster  ----------------- So I'm sure the first thing you will notice is the lack of mournfangs.... Unfortunately these haven't arrived yet :( so I'm going to make do with what I have.  The plan is to try and be aggres

The Pask Brigade.

Time to talk some more guard options. I wouldn't say that it's a hugely competitive option for your army, but it might be worth considering against your mates or in a tournament that is on a 4x4 board. Here are the basics: Pask in a Leman Russ Punisher. 2 x Leman Russ Eradicators. SO, where to get started. Why have we chosen to use Pask in the first place? Well, he isn't a bad choice. He was okay in the last book, and only got better in this one. Choosing him in a punisher will give the 20 shots rending, which is a great bonus. The 24" range is greatly debilitating on 6x4 boards where your opponent can escape the 30" range. Consequently, as I said before, the best option for this unit is whilst playing a 4x4 board. It's not invincible, Meltaguns/Wraithcannons, or anything else will still cause you problems. One option to keep this lot alive would be to combine this with a fearless blob of conscripts, OR bring a bunch of Primaris psykers and hope for 4+ invul.

DKK: Death Rider Unit Breakdown.

Image
In my opinion, Death Riders are one of the best units in 40k. Okay, so they die pretty horrendously to Broadsides ignoring cover, but what doesn't these days? Let's look at Death Riders in focus, and see what we can do with them. The best attributes about these guys is that they come with two wounds EACH. Second to that is their WS4 and Carapace armour. Third to that is Frag, Krak AND FNP 6+. Not to mention that they are cavalry with a re-roll on dangerous terrain tests. All that for a point more expensive then a standard marine! Furthermore, being able to take them in a platoon has some awesome potential for an allies slot. In fact, it is likely to be more cost-efficient that way. I'll talk about this later though. Damage: First charge and Frag Grenades means you are hitting at a higher Initiative then most ground infantry, and this is where the real damage potential of these guys come in. However, even after the first round of combat, you're still getting 4 attacks p

Upcoming battle report - Orks vs Nids

As our regular readers may know, Ruby and I are big fans of testing out the latest stuff released from GW. While we may not be the quickest on the uptake, we like to think that we're more balanced in our approach. To this end, we have scheduled a 2k point battle: Orks vs new Nids. "But there are no new Orks, that's not fair on you, and the new Nids are so OP!" I hear you cry but fear not, while Ruby will be taking the bulk of his new Tyranid force (assuming he builds them in time), I will be fielding an Ork Stompa to even the field. We will have a full battle report for you soon. Let the stomping commence!
